Biography

Jennie Roberta Jones, age 92, of Concord passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014. She was a long-time member of Concord United Methodist Church. In 1944, she graduated from Ft. Sanders School of Nursing and began her career, whereby she served in the early days of Clinton Engineer Works (Oak Ridge), followed by assignment in Project “Y” in Las Alamos, NM. Following the war, she was Private Duty Nurse to Col. Bacon of Bacon Hosiery Mills, worked for Loudon County Hospital, and finally retired from Ft. Sanders Hospital. After retirement, Jennie became an entrepreneur and co- owner of the “Calico Cat”, a craft and specialty store. She was proud of her hometown and loved serving her community through her service in The Daughters of The American Revolution and her position as Admiral of the Farragut Folk Museum. She will be missed by many. Preceded in death by parents, J.R. and Jennie Harvey; husband, Gilbert Guy Jones; brothers, Adie Sypress, Bruce, and Robert Harvey; sister, Frances Newman. She is survived by her son, Gilbert Guy Jones II and wife,Marilyn; grandsons, Gilbert Guy Jones III, John C. Jones; granddaughter, Melissa Jennie Jones; sister, Lydia Joyner; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July2, 2014 at Highland Memorial Funeral Home, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919, from 11:00-1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1:00, Rev.
