Greensboro, NC- Mr. Jeremiah Phillips Jr., 66, gained his eternal reward on July 25, 2014 after a long illness. Funeral services to celebrate his life will be at 10 AM on August 8, at Bridge Street AWME Church, Brooklyn, NY with interment to follow in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 AM at the church prior to the service.

Mr. Phillips was born in Battlesboro, NC to the late Jeremiah and Ethel Warren Phillips, whom he loved dearly. He attended John J. High School and proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Jeremiah worked as a courier for the Department of Social Services in NY for many years. He grew up in Brooklyn but moved to NC in 2008 to live with his sister and her husband (Curtis and Delores Beckett). Jeremiah will be fondly remembered by friend, Ms. Eadie Barrett and a host of other friends and family who will smile when they think of his fun loving ways and sense of humor. He often spoke of fun times spent with his brother, William Earl Phillips and brothers-in-law, Curtis S. Beckett Jr. and Melvin Patterson. He was talkative and never met a stranger. He enjoyed playing pool and ping pong and was a great basketball player. In his later years he enjoyed feeding birds. Jeremiah leaves behind a legacy of love for God and family, the importance of hard work and courage in the face of adversity.

He is survived by his two sisters, Delores Beckett of Stokesdale, NC and Joyce Marie Jenkins of Brooklyn, NY. He is dearly loved by his numerous nieces and nephews and shared a special bond with niece, Tasha Williams Grooms and nephews, Lawrence Williams, II and Curtis S. Beckett, III. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by brother, William Earl Phillips and sisters, Evelyn Patterson and Helen Louise Johnson.
