Jerry Davis, 78, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at The Bridges in Ankeny. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Ankeny Baptist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jerry was born May 6, 1939, to Lester A. and Lorine Mae (Farrell) Davis. He was united in marriage to Beverly L. (Stephens) Davis on October 23, 2017. He worked for the City of Ankeny for 27 ½ years. Jerry was a past member of the Urbandale Baptist Church where he helped Gary McConeghey organize AWANA and also a Leader, Sunday school superintendent, Deacon, Usher, san in the choir and often sang solos. He was currently a member of Ankeny Baptist Church where he was known as the "Candy man" as his pockets were always filled with Smarties for the young children. He loved his "children" and looked forward to every Sunday to greeting and high fiving them. Jerry was past President of the Dragoon Izaak Walton League of Ankeny, former Ike of the Year (1989), EMT/Firefighter with the Ankeny Volunteer Dept. and a Reserve Polk County Sheriff's Deputy.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Beverly Davis; children, Russell (Patti) Davis, Toni (Zeke) Eggers, and Jon Davis; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; uncle, Russ (Merilyn) Farrell; and sister, Cindy (Richard) Blum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Lorine Davis; and a sister, Madelon West.

Had a chance to meet Jerry only a few times but was glad to have done so. Everyone that knew him well and talked about him knew him as a man of great character and his dedicated service to the community.
