Ronnie and Brenda,
Please accept my condolences for the loss of Jerry. Your loss is also a profound loss for the class of TCHS 70 as well as a personal loss for me. Jerry was our class's shining star. He continued to accomplish feats of courage and durability that those of us with normal legs could not do. But, he was more than an athlete. He was a coach for many of us in many ways. When you spent time with Jerry, it was impossible to feel sorry for your self. Without a word he could make he could make you ashamed that you ever complained about anything.
I know I am a better person for having known Jerry and his influence and lessons will stay with me for the rest of my life. I know there are many others that he touched in the same way. My prayers and thoughts are with you and Brenda.
Love
Ray Glenn

There are no words to express the inspiration and friend that Jerry was to me personally and to our Tuscaloosa County High Class of 1970. His dedication to me and to our class was exceptional. Did we think of him as a cripple? Never, absolutely not. He was a man's man, and yes, an athlete, to be admired. Two weeks after his legs were removed, he was on his golf cart, competing in our TCHS 1970 40-Year Reunion Golf Tournament and showed no mercy to his two-legged friends. He joked about being kicked out of the National Butt Kickers Association because his legs were gone! As he told me when he was coaching me through my broken leg and incapacitation..."You can do this...No Pain, No Gain!" That was Jerry...always making us laugh, giving us advise, and being an unconditional friend. His compassion for others was unsurpassed, evident by his willingness to donate financially and physically to others, his honesty, his humor making him a role model for us all. We will miss him greatly and look forward to walking with him again in Heaven. RIP, Jerry...we love you and take comfort in the fact WE WILL SEE YOU AGAIN!
