Jerry Wayne Smith age 71 of Jarrell, Texas, formally of Flat Rock, Illinois, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, June 5, 2016 after an extended illness in Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston Texas.

Jerry was born on March 28, 1945 at the family home to Noble and Wilma Smith. He married his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Thomlinson in July, 1945. He is also survived by their 2 daughters, Sherri Shoulders of Flat Rock, Illinois, Leslie Bailey of Jarrell,Texas and son-in-law, also partner in turning wrenches, David (Beetle) Bailey; seven grandchildren, Shawna Vaughn, Shelby Shoulders, and Dalton Shoulders, all of Flat Rock, Illinois, Tia Meronek of Copperas Cove, Texas ,and Derek Bailey, Shyanne Bailey, and Darren Bailey all of Jarrell, Texas; also four great grandchildren, Maddux Roberts and Paxton Metz of Flat Rock, Illinois and Levi and Lane Meronek of Copperas Cove, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry enjoyed spending time with his family teaching and touring the country side in the model A Fords and B model Macks that he spent his life as a mechanic collecting and repairing, after graduating from Robinson High School in 1963. He was a member of The Grace United Methodist Church of Palestine, Illinois.

Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Weger, son-in-law Steve Shoulders, one grandson, and three great-grandsons.

The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 5:00 P.M.to 9:00 P.M. Friday, June 10, 2016 at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas.

The second visitation will be held at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, Illinois from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, Illinois. Internment will follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Montgomery Township, Illinois.
