Jesse Daniel Drafts "JD"
LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Jesse Daniel Drafts, "JD", 89, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 10000 Broad River Rd., Irmo, SC 29063.
J.D. was born April 16, 1928 in Irmo, SC and passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. He was the son of the late Daniel and Gurlie Derrick Drafts and the stepson of Lila Koon Drafts. He was the husband of the late Helen Corley Drafts, who preceded him in death in April of this year. They were married 66 years.
J.D. was a graduate of Irmo High School and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a fifty plus years member of the Boylston Mason's Lodge and an active life member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. After retiring from the Columbia Post Office, J.D. and Helen traveled to all fifty states and enjoyed working in their vegetable garden.
Mr. Drafts is survived by his sons, James F. "Jimmy" (Cathy) Drafts of Lexington and William C. "Billy" Drafts of Columbia; grandchildren, Jacob "Jake" Daniel Drafts, Kaitlen "Kate" Rose Drafts, Matthew "Matt" Porter Drafts and sister, Verta Drafts Koon.
J.D. will also be missed by his nieces and nephews who thought of him as a second daddy. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his son, Fred L. Drafts and brother-in-law and friend, H.D. Koon.
Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
