US Army, CSM, Retired, Jesse D. Powell, Sr., 86, of the Sunset Harbor Community passed away on Thursday the third of August, 2017.
Born in Calhoun Falls, SC on October 19, 1930, he was a son of the late William Lee, "WL" and Nellie Welchel Powell. He was retired from the US Army after twenty four years of service. Jesse was a longtime member of the Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church, the Pythagoras Masonic Lodge #249, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Sudan Temple and the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a granddaughter Deana; three brothers and a sister.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-five years, Billie Partridge Powell; two daughters, Pamela Yates, Kathy Setzer and husband James; a son, Jesse Powell, Jr. and wife Holly; a sister, Betty Bennett; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, the seventh of August, 2017 at two o'clock in the afternoon in the Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Sunset Harbor First Baptist Church "Building Fund" at 3871 Sunset Harbor Rd SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
