Jesus Vasquez of Odessa passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at the age of 94 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born August 19, 1919 in Kennedy TX to Gavino Vasquez and Rosa Cervantes Vasquez.

He met and married Juanita Perez in Karnes County, TX on Sept. 15, 1940. Jesus and Juanita with their children moved to Odessa in the mid 50's seeking opportunities in the construction business, eventually retiring from his employer and long term friend Dr. Finch.

His civic duties were being a leader in the establishment and growth of the San Juan (North Ranchito) Catholic Church. In the 60's Jesus was instrumental in convincing county officials to establish and maintain baseball fields in the north Odessa area. He was known as "Coach Chuy" the first coach to lead LOS DORADOS, well-known for their winning ways, to several area championships and became the local powerhouse baseball team for the next decade.
Jesus enjoyed taking his grandchildren on the many well-remembered hunting, camping and most of all fishing trips. But his true passion was the opportunity to have family gatherings to celebrate life, and especially his birthday.

He is preceded in death by his wife Juanita Perez Vasquez, daughter Rose Reyna, brothers Gavino Vasquez Jr, Guillermo Vasquez, David Vasquez and Arnulfo Vasquez.

He is survived by his son Arturo Vasquez, daughter Tommie Vasquez, brothers Servando Vasquez and Lupe Vasquez, sisters Lupe Pena, Melchora Flores and Pilar Valdez, 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Jesus Vasquez will lie in state at Frank Wilson Funeral Home, viewing Sunday 1pm-9pm, Monday 8am-9pm with Rosary at 6pm. Celebration mass will be at Holy Redeemer at 10 AM Tuesday. Pallbearers will be Arturo Vasquez, Manuel Vasquez, Raymond Vasquez, Jessie Vasquez, John Paul Gonzalez, Octavio (Shamu) Reyna and Henry Enriquez III.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all for their support through this difficult time. Special thanks to Sienna Nursing Home staff.

Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
