GRANITEVILLE, S.C. - Mr. Joe Woo Hong, 92, of Graniteville, SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Charlie Norwood Veteran Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11am at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chasen Hong Worthington, Lee Friday, Travis Hong, Gen Hong, Jr., Joseph Hong, and Amber Hong. Joe was born in Canton, China on October 20, 1921 to the late Jew D. GRANITEVILLE, S.C. - Mr. Joe Woo Hong, 92, of Graniteville, SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Charlie Norwood Veteran Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11am at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chasen Hong Worthington, Lee Friday, Travis Hong, Gen Hong, Jr., Joseph Hong, and Amber Hong. Joe was born in Canton, China on October 20, 1921 to the late Jew D. Young and Jew Kwan Shee. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 12 in 1932.He worked at his father's store C.W. Woo Grocery until he inherited it 1954. The store was in business until 1991. Joe proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II and the Korean War being honorable discharged as a Sergeant. He received a Bronze Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Joe was an avid bowler and was in leagues from 1958 - 2008. He was awarded several certificates, patches, and trophies for high series games 200 and over. Joe enjoyed cooking Chinese dishes and enjoyed boating and fishing. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. We will miss him dearly and cherish him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gan Yen, and brother in law Eddie Jew. He is survived by his wife Mary Ramirez Hong, daughter, JoAnn Hong (Jacob) Munson, Graniteville, SC, sons, Gene Woo (Bonnie) Hong, Keysville, GA, Gen Tong Woo (Patricia) Hong, North Augusta, SC, Joe Woo (Margaret) Hong, Jr. Graniteville, SC, grandchildren, Cynthia (Lee) Worthington Friday, Chasen (Trina) Hong Worthington, Gen Tong Woo Hong, Jr and fiance Susan Longshore, Travis Hong, Amber Hong, Joseph Hong, Stephanie Hong, great grandchildren, Lauren A. Friday, Landen Friday, Kayleigh Hong, and Jamie Arrington, Jr. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
