Jewell Sample Murphy Alderson, a lifelong resident of El Dorado and a descendant of early Union County settlers, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
She was born on January 23, 1915, the daughter of Louella Sample Murphy and Oscar Gammye Murphy.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 74 years, Edwin Boyd Alderson, Sr. and a son, Alan Keith Alderson.

She is survived by a son, Edwin Boyd Alderson, Jr., his wife Diane, his children Edwin Boyd Alderson, III and Mary Tracy Alderson Fort, grandchildren Jewell Murphy Fort, David Eric Fort, Jr. and John Hudson Fort. The children of Alan Keith Alderson; Alan Keith Alderson, Jr., Kevin Lane Alderson, his wife Anne and their children Lane Elizabeth Alderson and William Alexis Alderson; Kenneth Shane Alderson, and his wife Allison, and their children Alexandria Jewel Alderson, Caroline Elaine Alderson, Kenneth Luke Alderson and Benjamin Shane Alderson.

She is also survived by her adoring nieces Nana Bachtel Stewart, Judy Wood Dalrymple, Sally Wood Keedy and their families of San Antonio, Texas.

Jewell attended West Avenue Elementary School, El Dorado High School and Judson College in Marion, Alabama. She was baptized at First Baptist Church in 1925 and was a pre-school Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. She was a member of the El Dorado Service League and the Spade and Trowel Garden Club but she spent most of her time giving love, nurture and encouragement to her family and to any one else in need. The last words she spoke were, "love" and "thank you".

The family gives special thanks to the faithful caregivers, Mary Ann White, Sue Carter, Mike Perry, and to Jenifer McLelland of Life Touch Hospice home care.

She will be buried at a graveside service attended by her family.

Memorials may be to First Baptist Church Foundation or a church or charity of the donor's choice.
