Jewell Grant Avery, 86, of Crossville, TN., formerly of Phenix City, Alabama, died Saturday August 11, 2012. The family will receive friends Wednesday August 15th from 3:00pm until 6:00pm EST at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867. A private memorial service will be held 11:00am EST Friday at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. with the Reverend Judd Stinson officiating.
Mrs. Avery was born January 4, 1926 in Bainbridge, Georgia, daughter of the late Cleveland Grant and Josie Mae Dykes Grant. She was a homemaker and member of the Summerville United Methodist Church in Phenix City and The United Methodist Women's Association. Other than her parents Mrs. Avery is preceded by her husband, Wilbur A. Avery, 2 brothers, Cecil and Eugene Grant and sister, Myrtice Hill.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Richard E. and Roberta Avery and Roger Avery, daughter and son-n-law, Valeda and Thomas C.Weber , sister, Jenell Marshall, grandchildren, Diana and Christopher Avery, 6 great grandchildren, nephew, Michael Marshall, other relatives and friends.
