The youngest of five children, Mr. Allen was preceded in death by all four siblings, Leon, Marcella, John and Muriel.

Mr. Allen grew up in Anna, Illinois and graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School. He joined the United States Army in 1960 and served three years as a heavy machinery electrical technician. He also served three years in the Army reserves.

Mr. Allen is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Carole Workman-Allen, two sons Mark (Denise) and Michael; and his daughter, Jill (Wess) Vaughan. He also leaves three step-children, Kandace Buehrle Soiland, Joel (Tammy) Buehrle and Beth Buehrle. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The legacy that Mr. Allen leaves behind is one of physical and emotional strength, a deep love for his family, devotion to his wife and unfailing integrity. He loved animals, especially dogs, and garnered comfort and strength from them during his long illness. Mr. Allen was well-liked by the other residents at Cedars Health Care, where he spent the last two and a half years, and the staff, as well as the staff at Hospice of Saint John in Lakewood, who provided him both kind and professional care.
