JIMMIE WILBURN DUNN

June 6, 1922 – September 6, 2013

Jimmie Wilburn Dunn passed away September 6, 2013, at Medical Center.

He was born June 5, 1922, in Concho County, TX. He was raised on a farm with his brother and three sisters. After graduating from Doole High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II. He was a radio gunner in the 5th Fleet, McArthur's Navy and served in the infamous battle of Leyte Gulf.

After the war he attended college at Hardin Simmons University where he met his future wife Mary Frances Phillips. They married on August 6, 1948, and just recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. They settled in Odessa in 1956, and have been living here ever since.

Jimmie was a loan officer at First Savings and Loan and later at Odessa Savings and Loan until his retirement. After retirement, Jimmie and Frances enjoyed traveling all across the United States and Europe. He also enjoyed spending time at the family farm, ranch, and lake with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His hobbies included bowling, tennis, and golf, as well as watching sporting events in person, and on TV. Jimmie taught his children how to water ski and he himself continued to ski until his 70's. He was a rancher at heart and always had many projects going at both the farm and the ranch throughout his whole life. At the age of 77, he was still digging fence posts by hand. Even in his later years, he enjoyed being out and working cattle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Roland Dunn, and three sisters Martholene Moore, Hazel Duke, and Maxine Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife Mary Francis Dunn of Odessa, son John Roy Dunn of Corpus Christi; son James Mark Dunn and wife, Jeannie of Round Rock; daughter Ellen Sablan and husband, Frank of Greenwood; son Jack E. Dunn of Thorndale; and daughter Janis Morgan and husband, Michael of Odessa. Also missing him greatly are his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Rev. David T. Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
