Lenna "Jo" Josephine Hoxit Russell passed away May 1, 2014 with her family by her side. She had been living with her son Jerry M. Teague, his wife Diana and grandson Todd in Merritt Island, Florida since January 4, 2014 while recuperating from surgery on her ankle.
Born November 2, 1925 in Waynesville, NC, granddaughter of Jack Hoxit who saved and married a native American, Martha Satten who he rescued from the "Trail of Tears". Jo, the youngest child, was the daughter of John Cogdill Hoxit and beloved Mother Iva Ethel Bumgarner, sister to 5 brothers and one sister plus a half brother and sister. She left behind her only son, Jerry M. Teague, his wife Diana, granddaughter Amy and her husband Kiet Truong, grandson Todd, great-grandsons, Tyler 15, Brandin 13, Andrew 10, great-granddaughter Mai-Lynn 3, and several nieces and nephews.

Jo was a courageous woman. After she graduated from Waynesville high school, she pioneered the family moving to Bridgeton, NJ, where they worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company. In 1958 Jo was ready for another change. She along with her son and nephew moved to California with $400 in her pocket and no job. Jo would land several jobs and was a success being a single mom. In 1963, adventure came into her life. She met and fell in love with Cecil E. Russell. They went to North Carolina to marry. Jo joined her new husband in Florida. They resided in Merritt Island where Jo worked in payroll for North American Rockwell. In 1968, Jo and her husband moved to their beautiful A-Frame home in East Orange County. Jo and her husband lived at the A-frame until Jo's husband's health dictated the need to move to town. Jo loved the new home in Cocoa that was built in 1991 just for the Russells. Jo became a widow three years later. She lived the next 20 years successfully as an independent woman.
To Jo, her greatest pleasure was that she and her sister opened and operated an interior decorating business. Her claim to fame was she would decorate on a small budget.
Everyone that knew Jo, knew of her avid love of cats. She said she never met a cat that she didn't love. She along with a neighbor supported a colony of over 17 cats. When she passed she had one black cat Sheba.
