Jo was an accomplished attorney and partner at McRae, Stegall, Peek, Harmon, Smith & Manning, LLC. After graduating from Darlington School, The University of Georgia Terry College of Business, and The University of Georgia School of Law, Jo was admitted to the Georgia Bar Association in 1984. He also co-chaired the Workers' Compensation Law Institute Annual Seminar Program in 2008. Most recently, Georgia Trend Magazine named Jo as a 2013 Legal Elite.

In addition to his busy law practice, Jo was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and trout fishing with family and friends. Jo cherished his church and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Rome since 1987 and served in many capacities including Deacon and Elder. Jo also actively served his community. He was a member of the Rome Rotary Club and previously served as President of Darlington School's Alumni Council. He was a past board member of the United Way of Rome/Floyd County and the Open Door Home. Jo was passionate about The University of Georgia and acted as president of Chi Phi fraternity, served as a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Honor Society, and upon returning to Rome, served as a president of the Rome Bulldog Club.

Jo will be remembered for his faithfulness to God, his family, and his friends. Jo's Christian faith was evident in the way he conducted business, nurtured his relationships, and led his family.
