Orleans- Jodie Ann Limon Montoya, 50, passed away July 15, 2014, after living with metastatic breast cancer for over four years. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Jodie was the beloved wife of Dr. Steven G. Montoya and the cherished mother of daughters Rachel, 20, and Hannah, 17, and loyal poodles, Harry and Louie.

Born in Norwood, MA, on July 24, 1963, she received a dual BA/MA degree Summa Cum Laude in English from Boston College. She was passionate about nature and the preservation of wildlife, a love she pursued through her work at Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary in Barnstable, MA. She wholeheartedly believed that "you must do something to make the world more beautiful", a sentiment from Miss Rumphius, a children's book she loved to read to her daughters when they were young. Spending her days teaching youth about the animals and habitats of the Cape, Jodie was grateful to be able to share her devotion to the natural world with others and to do her part to protect nature and ensure that the outdoors she so loved stayed safe and beautiful.

When she wasn't working, Jodie loved nothing more than to spend her afternoons on Nauset's Outer Beach, boogie-boarding and paddle-boarding with her close friends and family or spending time walking Harry and Louie along the bays and trails of Cape Cod. She was fully committed to loving and raising her daughters and ensuring that she taught them the importance of kindness, compassion, and selflessness. Though she was heartbroken to leave them so early, she passed away secure in the knowledge that they would live on to embody her memory and all the values about which she cared so deeply. In addition to Steve, Rachel, and Hannah, Jodie is survived by her parents, Sylvan and Myrna (Temkin) Limon of Brookline, MA. Jodie's wishes were to be cremated and to have her ashes spread in the waters off of Nauset Beach. A private ceremony will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her name to Mass Audubon's Long Pasture Sanctuary, P.O. Box 235, Cummaquid, MA, 02637.
