Joe Fojtasek

Joe Fojtasek, 92, of Dallas, TX passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 24, 2011 at his ranch in Winchell, Texas. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was born on his family farm in Red Ranger, Texas on April 25, 1919 to Joseph Frank Fojtasek and Anna Mayes Fojtasek. Joe was the youngest of five children. Shortly after high school he joined the United States Army Air Corps and served during WWII. After the war he became a successful Dallas businessman. Starting in 1949 he founded and become CEO and Chairman of the Board of multiple manufacturing and distribution businesses including Skotty Aluminium Products, H&R Windows, Extruders Inc., Arizona Distributors and Dow-Tech Plastics. These companies eventually became known as The Fojtasek Companies. By 1989 the company changed its name to The Atrium Door and Window Company which is today one of the largest manufacturers of residential windows and doors in the United States. After he retired from the company and until the time of his death, Joe was also an active investor in Real Estate, Oil and Gas and in both public and private equities.
When not traveling with his family, Joe and his wife Jacqueline, divided their time between residences in Dallas, Tx; their ranch in Winchell,Tx and homes in Beaver Creek Colorado and South Padre Island, Tx.
He was an avid sports fan and attended both the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks games regularly. He loved Dallas sports so much he eventually invested in the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars.
He was an outdoorsman. Although he hunted and fished around the globe he was most happy when he was at his ranch in Texas sharing the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
He was a philanthropist and gave generously to many charities for many years, including the Crystal Charity Ball, the St. Mark's School of Texas, the Episcopal School of Dallas, the Dallas Opera, the Dallas Symphony, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Salvation Army.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jacqueline; 5 sons; Norman Fojtasek and his wife Ann of Kapaau, HI; Joseph Edward Fojtasek and his wife Yvonne of Frisco, TX; Richard Wayne Fojtasek and his wife Ivy of San Diego, CA; Russell Steven Fojtasek and his wife Michelle of Dallas, Tx; and Randall Scott Fojtasek and his wife Ola of Dallas, Tx; 10 grandchildren, Ananda Fojtasek, Michael Fojtasek, Hillary Cotton, Eric Fojtasek, Caitlin Fojtasek, Kevin Fojtasek, Joe Fojtasek II, Jack Fojtasek, Randall Fojtasek Jr. and Gage Fojtasek; and 4 great grandchildren. Mr. Fojtasek was preceded in death by his four older siblings; Anton Fojtasek, Annie Lesikar, Laura Pasival and Marie Fojtasek.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Highway Chapel on Monday, November 28, 2011. A private family entombment will be held prior to the service. I bring you condolences from the Hall family to our former business colleague, friend, and customer. My Dad, J. D. Hall Jr, began Ready Hung Doors in Dallas in 1949 and Joe was his first customer. That's when we learned how to pronounce and spell his unique name! This was the world's first pre-hung door maufacturing plant, now a common commodity across the globe. Dad even shared the building that Joe had his early distribution business in, and later sold our Ready Hung business to Joe in about 1953. This preceded the development of Atrium Doors and Joe's other business units. We were always grateful for Joe's business acumen and value as a continuing customer, when our Hall family developed 2 other pioneering millwork businesses which manufactured Finger-Jointed Mouldings and Door Lights and Louvers, known as Visador Company. Joe bought products and helped greatly in gaining market acceptance for these millwork innovations. With gratitude and best wishes to all the Fojtasek family members. Don Hall (Waco, TX)

I will always be thankful to Mr. Fojtasek for his vision in creating jobs for countless families, mine included; and to his family for continuing his legacy.
I remember Mr. Fojtasek's warm smile as he greeted us when he visited the then Union Bower office in Irving, always a gentleman, a kind person.

God bless and protect the Fojtasek family. May the eternal light shine upon him, we pray to the Lord.
