Joe E. Johnston went to be with the Lord April 6, 2013. He was born in Dallas, Texas, March 29, 1930 to Louise Craig, and adopted by Joe E. and Elma Johnston. Joe grew up in Marlin, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanna Abraham Johnston, his children, Linda J. McAlister (Robert), Richard A. Johnston (Danell), and David E. Johnston (Paula), seven grandchildren, Christopher Dysart (Maggie), Ashley Johnston, Matthew Johnston (Meredith), Richard C. Johnston, Katherine J Ponath (Brandon), Joseph A. Joe E. Johnston went to be with the Lord April 6, 2013. He was born in Dallas, Texas, March 29, 1930 to Louise Craig, and adopted by Joe E. and Elma Johnston. Joe grew up in Marlin, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanna Abraham Johnston, his children, Linda J. McAlister (Robert), Richard A. Johnston (Danell), and David E. Johnston (Paula), seven grandchildren, Christopher Dysart (Maggie), Ashley Johnston, Matthew Johnston (Meredith), Richard C. Johnston, Katherine J Ponath (Brandon), Joseph A. Johnston, Paul Johnston, and five great grandchildren, Gabriella, David, and Isabella Ponath,
Kiley Dysart and Madeline Johnston, his sister, Sandra J.Traweek, Bryan, Texas, his half sisters, Elaine Tucker Rodgers (Jimmy) Brownfield, Texas, Barbara Tucker Davis, Houston, Texas, half brothers, Lee Bledsoe, Abilene, Texas, Don Bledsoe, Abilene, Texas; his nieces Alexandra Rosson, Houston, Texas, and Virginia Traweek Sweeney (Bryan),Dallas. Joe proudly served in the military from 1947-1949. Joe was an automobile mechanic for ten years, and in 1961, he joined the Dallas Police Department, class #73, badge #1752. He retired in 1986 as an investigator after 24 years of service. He was an active member of the Dallas Retired Police and Firefighters Association as well as a member of the Kerry Blue Terrier Club of Texas for 40 years. Joe was an active member of the Bremond Masonic lodge #350 A.F. & A.M. Bremond, Texas and Gabe P. Allen Lodge #1352 A.F. & A.M. Dallas, Texas for 64 years and was a 32nd degree Mason. He loved the work of Masonry and loved teaching men their work. Joe loved the Lord and his family deeply. One of Joe's greatest joys during his lifetime was the opportunity to meet his birth mother, Louise Craig Bledsoe, when he was 50, and build a relationship with her and the extended family. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren as they grew up. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He loved the family ranch, tending Beefmaster cows, and Kerry Blue Terriers including the current family dogs, Kirby and Dooley. Joe loved Bluegrass music and the banjo as well as a great game of dominos. Visitation will be at Sparkman Crane Funeral home on Tuiesday, April 9, from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel .There will be a private burial for immediate family on Thursday at DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Texas Scottish Rite hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, Texas or Grace United Methodist Church, PO Box 130, Bremond, Texas 76629, or charity of your choice.
