Greensboro - Joe Martin Rierson Jr. went to be with his Maker on August 11, 2014. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church. The family visitation will be at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Wednesday from 7 PM to 9 PM. Joe was a devoted member of St. John's United Methodist Church before his health began to decline. He was an active member of the Methodist Men, The Chancel Choir, and the Wesleyan Sunday School Class. He loved music and was a charter member of the "Elders Quartet". The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church. The family visitation will be at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Wednesday from 7 PM to 9 PM.

Joe was a devoted member of St. John's United Methodist Church before his health began to decline. He was an active member of the Methodist Men, The Chancel Choir, and the Wesleyan Sunday School Class. He loved music and was a charter member of the "Elders Quartet".

When Joe retired in 1993 after 26 years with State Farm Insurance Company, he and Frances enjoyed traveling with friends to various sites around the United States and Canada.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Huff Rierson, four children: Grace R. Fetterman and husband Will, of Greensboro; J. Martin Rierson III of Burlington; Mary R. Kelly and husband Ron, of Mt Juliet, TN; and Jesse V. Rierson and wife Cindy, of Belews Creek, NC. Five Grandchildren: Richard C. Holt, Jr. and wife Lena, of Smithfield, NC; Helen H. Sedwick of Greensboro, NC; Ryan Kelly and wife Jennifer, of Cottontown, TN; Ross Kelly of Nashville, TN; Amber R. Potter and husband Kyle, of Rosedale, MD; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan Michael Holt and wife Britteney, of Moyock, NC; Jesse, Ann, Steven, and Virginia Sedwick, of Greensboro; two great-great-grandchildren, Christopher Holt, TN and Melanie Grazer of NC.
Also surviving is a sister, Lois Elaine Harrison of Wilmington NC; a brother John Wyatt Rierson and wife Jane of Thomasville, NC; a sister-in-law Betty B. Rierson of Winston-Salem and numerous nieces and nephews.
