Joel Patrick McCarthy, formerly of Tampa, Florida, had made Greene County his home for the past 18 years. He was a loving, dedicated husband, father figure, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife Karen B. McCarthy; three sons: Joel P. McCarthy and partner Jose Monton, Mr. and Mrs. Eric H. McCarthy and son, and Alex and Sarah McCarthy and son, Kohen McCarthy, all of Florida and son Jackson D. McCarthy of Johnson City; two stepsons: Brent Gregory and girlfriend, Katrina Morlen, and Travis Gregory and one step daughter, Jennifer Shelton and husband, Jeremy all of Greene County; seven grandchildren of Greene County: Casandra, Jonathan, and Quintan Gregory, Tevin Shelton, Sheileigh Buddy, and Alyssa and Madilyn Gregory; an honorary daughter and son in law: Angela and Ricky Parker and family Alison, Abigail, Aaron and Austin Parker; one brother, Bill McCarthy; several nieces and nephews of Florida; one sister, Donna and husband R.C. Brown; one niece, Michelle Gruber; and one nephew, Michael Harmon of Greene County; one brother-in-law, Jimmy Williams; very special friends: Eric William (Ric) McCarthy (nephew) and wife, Clara, and Nick Scaglione and wife, Maria, of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Valerie McCarthy, and three sisters: Kathy Pratt, Sandra Williams and Betty Bolton of Florida.
The family will be receiving friends 12:00 noon, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Ashway Pentecostal Church.
Burial arrangements will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Johnson City.
