John Santore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 29, 2016.

John A. Santore, Sr. "Johnny Gats", 78, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2016. Born in New Brighton, on May 10, 1938, he was the son of the late John and Angela (Socci) Santore. He was a graduate of Curtis High School. He became a longshoreman at the age of 20. After 53 years as a member of the ILA he retired from Howland Hook Marine Terminal. Along with his father John, he also owned and operated Santore Limousines for many years. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Rosebank. He enjoyed attending the weekly Rosary meetings at Mount Manresa. John will be greatly missed by his many friends and loved ones, who will cherish their memories of him. We take some comfort in knowing that he is now resting in peace. John is survived by his wife Carmen; a daughter Gina (James) Muro; two sons, John (Wendy) and Anthony Santore; three grandchildren, Vincent, Giuliana and Nicholas; and two sisters, Mella (the late Joseph) Catania and Mary Ellen (Farrell) Virga. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10AM on Saturday at St Joseph's Church, Rosebank. Interment in Moravian Cemetery. Friend will be received on Thursday and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Staten Island, NY.

My Dad Dominic Pentangelo worked with Johnny Gats for many years at Holland Hook. They were both in the hospital in 2015 only 2 rooms apart, but, neither could visit the other. Sadly both passed in 2016. I hope their working together in a better place.
