John Franklin Burgess, Sr., 81, of Saint Albans, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 following a short illness. He was born in Charleston, West Virginia on July 29, 1933 to the late Grady and Eva Burgess.
John was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High in Charleston and attended West Virginia State College. Following his education he enlisted in the United States Navy.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth, of fifty seven years and his youngest son, John Jr., John was also proceeded in death by his brothers Donald, Bob and Larry. Also, sisters Linda Webb and Betty. John is survived by brother Conrad Burgess. Surviving daughters are Cindy Harper of Matthews, North Carolina, Julie Barthelmess of Logan, West Virginia and son-n-law, (considered a son), Michael Harper of Matthews, North Carolina.
John also had four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. All of whom he loved and adored.
Even though they are not listed as family members it must be said that Bob and Pat Weiford have been lifelong friends and have remained loving, faithful friends, and loyal to the end.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am- 1:00pm for visitation Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd. Cross Lanes, WV 25313 . The service will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00pm. Interment will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church (424 Cross Lanes Drive, Nitro, West Virginia 25143).
