John Gallegos Obituary

John Gallegos, 88, of Smithville, TX formerly from Bastrop, passed away on Friday, the 20th of March, 2015. He was born on the 16th of June, 1926 in Round Rock, Texas.

John is a WW II Veteran. He enlisted in the Army on December 7, 1944. There he served as an Anti-Tank Crewman. His battles and campaigns include the Southern Philippine Campaign earning him the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon w/Bronze Star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He transferred to the Air Force on November 26, 1945 serving in a Clerk-Typist position. He was Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant in the US Air Force on September 28, 1948.
He attended Rice University. He was a successful TV repairman and business man as the owner of Palms TV Repair moving from Houston to Bastrop, where he retired.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Hargrove-Gallegos, his parents Baldomero and Paula Gallegos, his sister Dominga Ybarra, his first wife and the mother of his children, Amelia Gallegos, his daughter Rebecca Gallegos, and son Adrian Gallegos.

He is survived by his son John Gallegos, Jr. and wife Selma and his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his siblings Porfiria Gonzales and husband George Gonzales, Lee Gallegos, Sr. and wife Lillie Gallegos, and Lupe G. Alvarez. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at the Towers Nursing Home and Resolutions Hospice. And a very special thank you to Lillie Gallegos for her kindness and support.

On Thursday the 26th March, 2015 there will be a visitation at eleven o'clock with Rosary to begin at twelve o'clock followed by a funeral service in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
