John R. Odom, 88, died Wednesday September 13, 2011 at St. Dominic Hospital. Visitation will be 4-6pm today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson. Services will be 11:00am Saturday September 17, 2011 at Meadowbrook Church of Christ, preceded by visitation at 10am. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
He was a Past-President of the Mississippi Association of Life Underwriters and of the Jackson Association of Life Underwriters. He made his career with New York Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Odom was a WWII veteran who served as a photographer on the USS Windham Bay in the Pacific Theatre.
He was preceded in death by his son Terry Odom. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Lynn Odom of Jackson; daughters, Lynda Turner of Tupelo, MS, Nancy Witcher of Tucson, AZ, and Donna Tomisino of Oak Harbor, WA; grandchildren, Lindsey Witcher of Tucson, AZ, Kaycie Turner of Tupelo, MS, and Dax Turner of Chattanooga, TN; and great-grandchild, Memree Turner of Tupelo, MS.

My heart goes out to everyone. I know you never get over this. You only learn how to live with it. As time goes on you will remember a smile from him, maybe some place you went that you had fun and laughed. Soon enough you'll realize the hole in your heart is filled with warm memories. Mr. Odom and all of his family are dear friends to all of our family. We are very saddened by his passing as he was a dear person and good man.
Mr. John was always interested in me everytime I saw him.
