John Fletcher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 27, 2016.

John “Roger” Fletcher

June 6, 1948 – November 27, 2016

John “Roger” Fletcher, of DeLand, Florida, went to his spiritual home on November 27, 2016 at the age of 68. A proud Orlando native, Roger was a graduate of Edgewater High School and attended the University of South Florida.

Roger was tremendously creative; a brilliant writer, historian, self-taught musician and masterful cook. He was a lifelong animal-lover who treasured all of God’s creatures and adored his cats. Roger had a naturally protective spirit and was eager to defend his family and all who were in need. The City of Orlando acknowledged this honorable trait with a Citizenship Award for his bravery in saving a female police officer from an attacker.

While Roger was deeply spiritual, generous and kind-hearted, it is certain that all who knew him will think of one word to describe him – funny. His biting wit, light-hearted pranks and comedic timing were unmatched, ensuring that all who were lucky enough to meet Roger spent that time laughing.

Roger loved and cherished his family. He was proud of his daughters Mary Beth Fletcher-Mycock (Lyndon) and Amy Objartel (Jason). He admired his parents who preceded him in death, Mary Louise and Richard Fletcher and adored his siblings Richard Fletcher Jr. (Suzanne), Mary Lowry (Bill) and Marcia Kazmi (Irfan). Roger was also blessed to have a beloved best friend, Diana “Dee” Snyder. His joyful spirit will also be missed by his dear caregiver, Donna Sorenson, and his much-loved nieces and nephew; Arden, Adair, Ansley, Ashley, Beth, Katie and Richard.

In lieu of flowers, Roger would want you to provide an unexpected act of kindness for someone in his memory. A celebration of life will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, 1603 Greenwood Street, Orlando on December 16, 2016 at 10 a.m.

Rodger was a ray of humor and sunshine at St. Michael's Church and in my 8th grade science class! He was one of those cool, nice guys that had a deeply caring heart and passion for life. Rest in peace and enjoy the next journey knowing you are missed.
