Arab, John Anthony, 74, Halifax. It is with profound sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest John, on March 27, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Margo (Metlej) Arab, and children Maryam (George) Ghosn, Amir (Kathryn) Arab, and Diana (Steven) Metlege, grandchildren Justin, James, Jeffrey, John, Austin, Katelyn, Valerie, Victoria, Steven and Olivia, Brother Phillip (Patricia) Arab, sisters-in-law, Laurance and Margo Arab, all of Halifax; Sisters Yasmine Francis and Georgette Fares, Lebanon; many beloved nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Maryam Arab, brothers George, Chucri and Toufic Arab. Born in Diman, Lebanon, John immigrated to Canada in 1955. He was always a faithful man whose life revolved around The Lord. He put God first and trusted Him until his last breath. He planted the seed of faith in his children from the time they were born. He taught them how to pray, how to trust, and how to live life walking the path that God had ordained for each of them. Going to church twice a day was John's routine. He was an honorary member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus. His joy in life came from spending time with his family. Having his wife, children and grandchildren around him brought him more happiness than anyone could imagine. He was a well respected businessman throughout his career. In the early years, he was a manager with Koolex Dry Cleaners. As the years went by, he built a very successful family business, which continues to thrive. He was a well known poet and recited his poetry at many happy family occasions celebrating the best of times, and during the most somber moments, eloquently commemorating his loved ones. He wrote and published a book in which he included some of his dearest works, however, there are not enough pages to print everything he wrote, as poetry was embedded in his soul and he would often be seen writing at any occasion on any piece of paper or napkin he could find. He was an avid gardener who would delight in watching his grandchildren in the garden picking the vegetables he had grown with his own hands. His favorite time of year was in the spring when he would begin to prepare to plant the many vegetables, flowers and herbs that were the envy of all. His love of his homeland Lebanon remained strong and he was blessed to be able to return on many occasions to visit the land of his birth. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Ricardo Rendon and his team and the entire staff on 5 B at the VG, for their amazing, diligent care and support. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 28, 7-9 p.m., Monday, March 29, 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Snows Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, March 30 @ 11:00 AM, Our Lady of Lebanon Parish, 3844 Joseph Howe Dr. Halifax; Bishop Joseph Khoury presiding, assisted by Father Pierre Azzi; interment to follow @ Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. "Oh, if you could only see, I have beheld our Father's face and I've touched my Saviour's Hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced as I entered the Promised Land."
