I met John freshman year of college and ever since every time I would see him in the rec, on campus, or hanging out at the Lambda Chi house a huge smile would appear on his face. He was always fun to talk to, he had a smart remark or something goofy to say. He was just a fun person to be around, and I'm going to miss that. I offer my condolences to the Banta Family, I can't tell you enough how much he truly touched all of us at Texas State, he will remain in our heart always.

To the Banta Family,
I've had the pleasure of meeting your son and enjoyed him visiting mine. My son felt John was the brother he never had. They connected from the day they meet at college and were truly brothers. Austin will never forget the true joy and laughter John brought into his life and a life time of memories. My deepest sympathy to all.

John has had a special place in my heart since he and Matt became friends in elementary. He was a joy to be around, always positive and full of life. I could always count on John for a kind word or a silly laugh. I wish I had some profound advice to share with you both, but after fours years of my own grief it has eluded me. I can tell you however, that the passing of time may not take all the pain away but at least the intensity lessens. My hope is that you can be a comfort to each other and to your family, knowing that love heals and strengthens us all. I believe that Matt is looking after John as I am here for you in whatever capacity you may need.

My husband and I met John when he was in high school thru our son, Leroy. John was a well mannered and funny kid. Through the years we have come to think of John as one of our children. There were times when he was in the our home just as much as our son Leroy. We will miss John. I feel that a piece of my heart has been taken away. I know that death is a part of life that we can not escape. We will miss John but there are memories that we will always have of him. Leroy Jr., Leroy III and myself send our deepest sympathy to the family.

John, Sharon & Family:
As a leader in the Lambda Chi Alpha when John joined, I knew that he would be a great brother immediately. Being apart of John's life was a gift. It is rare to meet someone that was as affable, loyal, and caring as John. John will always hold a special place in my heart and the hearts of those he touched. Please accept my condolences on your loss and know that John did great things in the relationships he built.
