Greensboro - Mr. John (Jack) R. Belfi, of Greensboro, NC, left this world on March 28, 2014 at his home.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Tuesday April 1st at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at the parish center.
A devoted and beloved husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Belfi was born in Camden, NJ, on July 16, 1934, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.E. John Belfi of Merchantville, NJ. He was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church.
Surviving are his loving and supportive wife of 53 years, Helene M. Belfi, formerly of Upper Darby, PA, his four sons: Matthew and his partner, Clint Carruth of Atlanta, GA; Keith and his wife, Scottie, of Atlanta, GA; Andrew of Charlotte, NC; Brian and his wife, Melanie, of Jamestown, NC; and his daughter, Maureen and her husband, Kevin Bernard, of Ringgold, VA. He is also survived by six granddaughters: Katlyn of Ringgold, VA; Hill and Ryan of Atlanta, GA; Jules Frances and Amelia Grace of Waxhaw, NC; and Giulia of Jamestown, NC; four grandsons, John Christian of Waxhaw, NC; Gabriel, Tristan and Jack of Jamestown, NC; and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews located in the Philadelphia area.
Mr. Belfi was a graduate of St. Joseph's Prep (1952) and St. Joseph's University (1956), both located in Philadelphia. PA. In 1996, he was the St. Joseph's University College of Business Administration Hall of Fame honoree; he also served on the University's Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Mr. Belfi joined Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1956, became a partner of the firm in 1967, and was associated with the firm for over forty years. During his career with Arthur Andersen, he was a member of their offices in: Philadelphia, PA; Milan, Italy; Newark, NJ; Bogota, Colombia; Greensboro, NC; Rome, Italy; and Madrid, Spain. He was Managing Partner of the Bogota and Greensboro offices. During his professional career, Mr. Belfi was a frequent speaker to financial groups and university accounting programs.
Mr. Belfi was also active in civic and charitable organizations in the cities in which he has lived, having served as Chairman of the Greater Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Piedmont Entrepreneurs Network and Junior Achievement of Central North Carolina, and was primarily responsible for the creation of the Greensboro Area Junior Achievement Business Leaders Hall of Fame. He was also an officer, trustee or director of United Way of Greensboro, Affordable Housing Management Foundation, Carolina Theatre, Bennett College, Greensboro City Club, Greensboro Rotary, National Conference of Christians and Jews (1984 Dinner Chairman), Triad World Affairs Council, Rotary Club of Greensboro, Well-Spring Retirement Community, American Club of Rome, USO of Rome, American School of Bogota, American School of Milan, Columbus Hospital (Newark, NJ), two chapters of the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Catholic Churches in Rome, Italy and Bogota, Colombia, and was the cofounder and initial President of the Pennsauken-Merchantville (NJ) Jaycees. He was also a member of the Center for Creative Leadership Associates, Guilford College Board of Visitors, Business Advisory Councils of the U.S. Ambassadors to Italy and Colombia, Maryfield Advisory Council, and the Greensboro Country Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie of golfing with friends.
The family will receive friends on March 31st from 6-7:30 pm at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home - 515 N. Elm Street.
