John Halliday Blackie of East Sandwich died suddenly on Saturday, July 11, 2015. He was born in Hawick, Scotland on May 30, 1928. Born as John Scott Halliday, his mother died when he was two years old and he was adopted by his aunt, Mary Blackie and her husband, John Blackie. In his early teens John began to work for Scottish Cashmere Knitwear, makers of Pringle, Braemar and Ballantyne clothing. In 1949, at the age of 21, he accepted a transfer within the company and immigrated to the United States to become a salesman for their Caribbean and New England territories. John Halliday Blackie of East Sandwich died suddenly on Saturday, July 11, 2015. He was born in Hawick, Scotland on May 30, 1928. Born as John Scott Halliday, his mother died when he was two years old and he was adopted by his aunt, Mary Blackie and her husband, John Blackie.

In his early teens John began to work for Scottish Cashmere Knitwear, makers of Pringle, Braemar and Ballantyne clothing. In 1949, at the age of 21, he accepted a transfer within the company and immigrated to the United States to become a salesman for their Caribbean and New England territories. He worked for them for over 40 years. He also worked for a brief period of time as a real estate agent for Jack Conway Real Estate.

During his life Mr. Blackie was very active in church work. He was either an elder, a deacon or both at the Gospel Tabernacle in New York City, the Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cresskill, NJ and Christ Chapel in Centerville, MA.

John married Elsie Negis in 1952. They moved to New Jersey and lived there for the next 42 years. In 1994 they moved to East Sandwich.

John is survived by Elsie (Negis) Blackie, his wife of 63 years. They have two daughters, Linda and her husband Timothy Stoll of Eastham, MA and Marilyn and her husband Bob Davidson of Norwood, MA; 6 grandchildren, Kristin and her husband Tom, Jennifer and her husband Barry, Jonathan and his wife Allison, Christopher and his wife Jennifer, Jessica and Ashley; and eight great-grandchildren, Lydia, Kathryn, Andrew, Melanie, Alexa, Brooke, Tyler, and baby Davidson (due in November).

A private burial for family will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 at St. Peter's Cemetery, Sandwich.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Chapel 1200 Old Stage Road in Centerville. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to The Samaritan's Purse P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 – www.samaritanspurse.org.
