John Benjamin Bottoms, Sr., age 64, of Winder, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas and Rubie Stephens Bottoms; his brother, Harry Royce Bottoms; and a niece, Jaime Furr. Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Hamrick Bottoms of Winder; three sons, John B. (Christine) Bottoms of Southside, AL, Joshua C. Smith of Athens, GA, and Simon J. Smith of Canton, GA; his daughter, Raina (Eugene) Chavis of Athens; a brother, Thomas Hugh Bottoms of Winder; a sister, Anne Lee Furr of Douglasville, GA; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two nephews, Christopher Bottoms of Suwanee, GA and Emmet D. Furr of Winder; two nieces, Teresa Furr of Douglasville and Deborah Furr of Tampa, FL; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Auburn, Auburn, GA, on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 4:00 PM with Reverend Chris Parkin officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association (http://www.lung.org/donate/). Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA, is in charge of the arrangements.
