John N. Bowman, Jr. passed away peacefully, with his loving wife by his side, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 3, 1953 in Gary, Indiana to Margaret (Jones) and John Bowman. He attended William A. Wirt High School and Purdue University. John married Lucy Ann, nee Bowsher on March 4, 1988 in Las Vegas. John lived in Northwest Indiana but moved to the Chicago area for a career opportunity with West Marine. He worked for various companies in sales, but his first love was sailing. He and his wife Lucy were experienced sailors and spent many glorious summers on a succession of sailboats, most recently a 30 ft Catalina. When they weren't on their boat, they enjoyed happy moments at the family cottage in Blind River, Ontario. John also loved sports, especially baseball, and was scouted in college. He later enjoyed playing softball for recreation. John leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Lucy; sisters Lezlie (Terrance) DeGan, Kathleen Chavez; and brother Robert; nieces and nephews Olivia, Haley, Tyler, Sean, Meghan, Dylan and Christian; sister-in-law Wendy (Walt) Brimley; and many dear friends. His parents and brother-in-law, Eugene Carlos Chavez preceded him in death. The family wishes to thank the many compassionate caregivers, friends and family for their support, love, and prayers during John's illness. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Cypress Funeral Home,1698 N. Bloomingdale Rd.,Glendale Heights,IL, Donations made to The American Cancer Society, 1801 S. I hope Lucy reads this even after the time since John passed. I am floored by what I have read here tonight. I did not know this happened. We have drifted apart since you folks moved to Illinois from Indiana. But you two still are fresh in my mind & memories. My deepest sympathy to you Lucy. I know you are doing great, you are a go getter with a good attitude. God Bless.

Dear Sis,
The only people who think there's a time limit for grief, have never lost a piece of their heart. Take all the time you need.
God has planned for this day, and He is here. He will always be at your side on days when we physically cannot.
We love you!

Lucy,
Our deepest sympathies to you and your family. Bob and I have so many fond memories of John. His "Good morning" as he walked by the boat, sitting on the dock and talking about whatever, feeling like the dock was complete when we were all there, being ready to lend a helping hand, and our "winter gathering."
