John Francis "Johnny" Burnett, Jr. – age 65, a Mobile native, born August 21, 1946, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 25, 2012. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandpa, and friend who never met a stranger. Following his graduation from McGill Institute in 1965, Johnny went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired from Sappi Paper. He continued working at Zimlich Patio & Garden and St. Mary's Catholic School. Johnny was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. John Francis "Johnny" Burnett, Jr. – age 65, a Mobile native, born August 21, 1946, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 25, 2012. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, grandpa, and friend who never met a stranger. Following his graduation from McGill Institute in 1965, Johnny went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He retired from Sappi Paper. He continued working at Zimlich Patio & Garden and St. Mary's Catholic School. Johnny was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He always had a smile on his face, loved life, and above all else, loved his family. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Antoinette Knowles Burnett. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 41 years, Geraldine Portella Burnett; daughter, Lisa Kloeckener; sons, John "Trey" Burnett, III (Allison), Eric Burnett, Craig Burnett (Rachel), and Father Travis Burnett; sister, Beverly Buczacki (John); brothers, Mark Burnett (Tammy), Rusty Burnett (Eva), sister-in-law, Jo Marie Wilson, brother-in-law, Michael Portella (Ellen); 7 grandchildren: Andrew, Brady, Kyle, Sarah, Sophia, Lillian, and Riley; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Even though our hearts are broken, we are greatly comforted by his strong Catholic faith. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Family Catholic Church on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at Radney Funeral home on Dauphin Street on Wednesday, June 27, from 5-8 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Serenity Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mobile Archdiocese Priests Burse Club, 1200 Richmond Ct., Mobile, AL 36693.
