The life of a wonderful and generous son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend:
Born on October 2, 1934, in Springfield, OH, to John Lamar Cashin and Dorothy Jane (Nicklas) Cashin. . John graduated High School in 1952, from Springfield Catholic Central. He is a proud and devout veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country from 1953- 1957, attaining his rank of A/1C (Sgt). He is an alumni of The University of Dayton, with his B.S. in 1961, and Master Degree in Business Adm. in 1978. He loved his "Flyers"; there was always a story to be told about how he held his university in high esteem and all of the beloved friends he made along the way.
John married "the love of his life" Sandy (Ahrens) August 19, 1961, and they raised their daughters, Stephanie (Cashin) Madachy, and Caren (Cashin) Byers, in Kettering, OH. Upon retirement, John and Sandy moved to Clearwater, Florida and are surrounded by dear friends and family. John spent his days playing piano, reading, golfing with friends at OTOW, and sitting on the patio relaxing in the sun surrounded by the ones he loved. His passion was family, music and sports.
John is survived by his sister Kathy (Cashin) Gentry, Sister and Brother- in- law Kathy and Steve England, Daughters and Sons-in-law Stephanie and Tom Madachy and Larry & Caren Byers, loving nephew Kevin England, 5 grandchildren of whom he adored Matthew, Brittany, Aliese, Brooke and Anna Grace.
John's passion for life and for those he loved will forever be missed. His sense of humor and love for music has been passed on to his children and grandchildren who carry it with pride. We will cherish the memories and think of you every time we see a sunset. He is at rest and at peace having lived a very blessed life with all of those he loved so dearly.
His life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2:00 pm Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at Moss-Feaster Funeral Home, 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater, FL 33764.

I, too, will miss you, John. I first knew you as singer Johnny Cashin when I played played piano in Johnny Mack's Top Brass band as a high school student. I later came to know you as an incredibly erudite student and afiicionado of jazz and swing music and an excellent golfer. You became my piano student and learned to read music after your retirement from GE, and remained my email friend until the end. I just learned of your passing last week and am deeply saddened, though I know your passing has led you to a beautiful, peaceful place full of jazz and big bands and Sinatra music everywhere. My deepest sympathies go out to your beloved Sandy and I know that you and I will listen to Torme singing The Folks Who Live On The Hill again together someday. Peace and love to you, John. I was and am honored to call you "friend." - Randy Villars, Dayton, Ohio

Caren and Stephanie,
I know how your dad meant the world to you both. Just the stories and visits with your dad that Caren would share with me(and all the pictures of family and him), let me know what a dear, caring special man he was. You should be so proud and lucky to have had him as your father. I know this time is so hard right now. I hope you can take comfort knowing that he is in peace and with the Lord. I am thankful you have so many positive memories of him. So glad you had such a wonderful visit with him and your mom just weeks earlier. Love you both so much. Hugs:))))

I love you Dad! The memories we have are going to bring comfort to us now. I'd write for hours about how your bright smile warmed a room. Couldn't wait to hear you say 'Hello there, whadya say!: listening every story you shared and how, the sound of your laughter filled the air. We'll always remember how your big generous nature brought such a feeling of peace, safety and security to all of us. We kids have had the best role model God could have ever shared,....really Dad, you're our Angel who was called home too soon, any time would have been too soon. I love you, Steph
