Major John Evans was the Maintenance Officer when we relocated Marine Observation Squadron - 2 [VMO-2] from Da Nang, RVN to Camp Pendleton, CA in April of 1971. He, WO John Molko [Assistant M.O.] and I [1st Lt., Embarkation O.] were the last officers in VMO-2 to depart Da Nang along with eight enlisted troops. Major Evans had orders to the Marine Air Reserve Training Detachment [MARTD] at NAS Memphis and, I am sure, was influential in my assignment to VMA-124 after I was released from active duty in October of 1972. We worked together in two commands. John was very intelligent, hard working and conscientious.
Pamela and I extend our sincere condolences to Jan and the Evans family.

To our father; a true American Patriot; a remarkable husband, father, and Marine Corpse Officer whom gave selflessly to his family, his Country and his Church. He was a quiet and gentle man with volumes of wisdom and knowledge. Having Maj John Evans as my father-in-law for near twenty-five years was an honor and a true blessing. RIP, Dad. I will miss you and will always hold you dear in my heart, with everlasting love.
