John Franklin Gainer, 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at St. Paul University Hospital in Dallas, Texas. John was born on July 10, 1935 to John Irvin and Flora Mae Gainer, in Dallas, Texas. He was the second of three sons. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. John served in the Air Force, from 1953 to 1962, as a Radio Intercept Operator. He met his first wife, Alice Mae Strever in 1956, while stationed in South Dakota, and they married later that same year. John Franklin Gainer, 77, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at St. Paul University Hospital in Dallas, Texas. John was born on July 10, 1935 to John Irvin and Flora Mae Gainer, in Dallas, Texas. He was the second of three sons. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. John served in the Air Force, from 1953 to 1962, as a Radio Intercept Operator. He met his first wife, Alice Mae Strever in 1956, while stationed in South Dakota, and they married later that same year. After leaving the Air Force, as a Staff Sergeant, he joined his father and uncle in the family business, Inwood Cycle and Hobby in Dallas, Texas. He and his cousin took over the business from their fathers expanded it and ran the company until 1993, when he retired. After Alice's death in 2000, he met and married his second wife, Peggy Jo Williams on October 6, 2001. John loved to spend time with family and friends. He was actively involved in the Good Sam's RV Club: a member of DFW Sam's Chapter and Assistant State Director for Area 13 of the state of Texas for two years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Provost Guard and the Provost Guard Marshall for the state of Texas for two years and the Hella Temple Provost Guard Marshall for the state of Texas for one year. John actively volunteered at his church and with the Shriners. He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters, Pam Gainer; Pat (Oscar) Arras; son, Gary (Weesie) Gainer; grandchildren, Geoffrey, Kelsey, and Sydney Gainer, Connor, Callie Anne, and McKenna Arras; brother, Irvin Gainer, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Peggy's children, Mike (Maureen) Williams; Jim Williams; Colene Gryder; and grandchildren, Tim, Alyssa, John, and Avalon Williams, Starr Adams, and April Broadway, who thought of John as a father and grandfather. John was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Tom Gainer, and his first wife, Alice Gainer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 2700 Warren Circle, Irving, Texas 75062 at 12:00 p.m., with The Reverend Mother Gail Gateley. Burial will follow at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home Beltline Road in Grand Prairie, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer or to Community Hospice, 1341 W. Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75247.
