John L. "POP" Jones, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed peacefully April 1, 2013 at his home in Hidden Hills. He was 89 years old.
Pop was born in 1923 to Margaret Richards and John D. Jones in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He served in the Army / Air Force in WWII. After leaving the military, Pop became a mechanical engineer and worked for Martin Marietta which brought his whole family to California in 1964. While an engineer, he was sanctioned to work on defense missiles and airplane cockpits. He left working as an engineer in 1972 to pursue a career in Real Estate Investments. He soon learned this is where he would spend the rest of his working life, and built a successful Real Estate firm that continues to grow. The company has stayed in the family, and is now being passed on to the third generation.
Pop was an avid car collector, and was especially talented at restoring old cars. Some of his collection includes Model A's, Model T's, a '32 Ford Roadster, and a '36 Seagraves Fire Truck.
Pop leaves behind his loving wife Helen of 66 years, sons Jack (married to Cindy), Leslie (married to Dixie), and Morgan (married to Eileen), and daughter Peggy (married to Parise). Pop was also a loving grandfather to John, Jennifer, Jason, Erica, Lauren, Alexander, Krystal, Jaclyn, Brodyn, Georgio, and Paris, and devoted great-grandfather to Sophia, Trevor, Henry, Angelica, and Helena.
