Kennerly, John Mauk, age 70, of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013. He was a longtime member of Church Street United Methodist Church. John graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1965 with a degree in chemical engineering. He conducted development work for many years at the Oak Ridge K-25 plant and later worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the environmental program. After retirement in 1997, John served on a Technical Advisory Board for the Department of Energy. He also served on the Board of Directors of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee. Kennerly, John Mauk, age 70, of Knoxville, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013. He was a longtime member of Church Street United Methodist Church. John graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1965 with a degree in chemical engineering. He conducted development work for many years at the Oak Ridge K-25 plant and later worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the environmental program. After retirement in 1997, John served on a Technical Advisory Board for the Department of Energy. He also served on the Board of Directors of Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tennessee. He had many unique talents including woodworking and architectural design. He was a member of the Margaret Stevenson Hiking Club and greatly enjoyed the beauty of God's creation and the companionship of fellow hikers. John was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Bowling Kennerly and parents, Nelle Mauk and Rollin Kennerly. He is survived by cousins David Mauk of Hilton Head, South Carolina; Nancy Greer of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; Dawn Scott of Johnson City, Tennessee; Robert Bodell of Boyds, Maryland; brother-in-law, Michael Bowling of Columbia, Missouri; special friends, George and Ruby Roettger and Gary and Phyllis Gitschlag. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM, Rev. Cabel Trent officiating. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Smokies, Margaret Stevenson Fund, P.O. Box 1660, Kodak, TN 37764.
