John Kvarnstrom Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 28, 2013.

John Arthur (Jack) Kvarnstrom, November 30, 1935 - March 26, 2013

Jack was a man who exemplified integrity, hard work, honor and commitment. He fiercely loved his Heavenly Father, family, the Bible, baseball, and woodworking. He touched many lives not always by what he said, but what he did even when he was not aware anyone was watching. He retired after 37 years at the Boeing Company spending the rest of his years being there for his family and completing fine woodworking projects as he was able. He is survived by his wife Dana of 54 years, four children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be missed but left a legacy of example of his core values which will never go away. One of Jack's favorite Winston Churchill quotes: To perceive a path and to point it out is one thing, but to blaze the trail and labor to construct the path is a harder task. We are all diminished when a man of honor passes on. Memorial service will be held 1:00pm Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Foothills Baptist Church (10120 Issaquah-Hobart Rd. SE, Issaquah, WA 98027)

Dana, I am sorry for your loss. I am so glad I knew Jack for the short time it was.

Dana

I will always remember you and Jack coming to the Gala planning meetings at the Longhouse. It was a thrill to know that I met and made "Duwamish" friends as my ancestors did when they arrived in June of 1851 on the Duwamish River and met Chief Seattle. I will cherish Jack's blanket chest and smile when I look at his picture at the auction in the Longhouse. I am proud to say you are my "Duwamish" friends forever...

Dana & Family,

We will always remember Jack as "Read your Bible Jack". His persistence in encouraging us to read the Bible and to not take for granted that we can freely read the Bible in this country will never be forgotten.

Our prayers go out to you and your family. He is missed.

In Christ's Love,
Janice & Kendall Kunz

We will miss Jack's counsel at the Longhouse, but his generous spirit will always be with us.

My brother Jack was my "Rock". We had many hours of adventure together when we were little kids. He taught me how to fish and play baseball and what to look out for in the woods to stay safe and not get in the stinging Nettles or Devils Club. As we grew up I was proud to call Jack my brother. At George Dewey JR. High he was pitching and he pitched a perfect game! I was so proud and I didn't realize how hard I was screaming until afterwards, he told me I was wondering who was screaming so hard and when I looked around I saw you, my sister! He was always joking and we had lots of fun days together. I could go on for hours but you all would get tired of reading. lol So, I will miss you my dear Brother but I know your walking on Streets of Gold and have no more pain to deal with. I love you Jack, tell Jesus Hello for me and we will be together again some day not too far off. Your sister Mary Lou,
Chuck and I send our love and condolances to Dana and all the family. Sorry that we can't be there with you all on this special day. God Bless you all.

Jack was my cousin. We were the same age. I was saddened to hear of his passing. He was such a wonderful man. Dana and her family are in my prayers.

John (Jack) Murphy

I have known Jack since the 7th Grade, at Dewey Junior High in Bremerton, where we first met. We played football together at Dewey and at Bremerton HS and he was always a "very dear friend"..

I consider him one of the "GOOD GUYS" in my life!!!!!

"May he rest in peace!"

Uncle Jack was a direct descendant of Chief Seattle, his first wife Ladaila, and their daughter Princess Angeline. Jack was an Enrolled Member of Chief Seattle's Duwamish Tribe of Indians (1855 Point Elliott Treaty at Mukilteo) and the historic Sackman Family (1919 Roblin's Rolls). Jack was a Master Wood-worker and created the burl-wood sign for the new Duwamish Longhouse & Cultural Center in West Seattle. Jack's authentic replicas of traditional Duwamish sculpture are in the collections of MOHAI, the Renton Historical Museum, and the Duwamish Longhouse & Cultural Center, among others. Jack set a good example of service to his Duwamish Tribe of Indians for younger generations. I will miss his smiles and laughter most of all.

I am so fortunate to have known Jack and spent school and work years near him. He really is the epitomy of kindness and strength. His journey is changing and he will always be in my heart.
