JOHN F. LEE John Frederick Lee, Jr., age 93, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013. He was born April 7, 1919, in El Dorado, Kansas to the late John F. and Helen Condell Lee, Sr. He received his BA Degree from Missouri University in 1941. He was a building contractor from 1947 to 1958 in Columbia, Missouri. He served as a City Manager intern from 1958 to 1959 in Columbia. In 1959, he received his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas. John Frederick Lee, Jr., age 93, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013. He was born April 7, 1919, in El Dorado, Kansas to the late John F. and Helen Condell Lee, Sr.

He received his BA Degree from Missouri University in 1941. He was a building contractor from 1947 to 1958 in Columbia, Missouri. He served as a City Manager intern from 1958 to 1959 in Columbia. In 1959, he received his Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.

He served as the City Manager of Victoria from 1959 to 1980 and was the City Manager of El Campo, Texas from 1980 to 1982. He was a member of the International City Manager Association and president of the Texas City Managers Association. He also served as past vice-president board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the International Rotary Club and director of the Red Cross; and served as advancement chairman of the DeLeon District Boy Scouts of America.

He served in the United States Army and Air Force in World War II in New Caledonia and Guadalcanal in the South Pacific, retiring from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. He remained on active reserve status. While in Victoria, he became the Commanding Officer of the Air Force Reserve group.

He met the love of his life, Lucy (Lucille) Scherlen. John and Lucy had a special love for each other and celebrated 48 years of marriage.

John Lee lived his life always putting other needs ahead of his own. He was a very special man who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy; two sisters, Virginia and Jo Ann; daughters, Pam Lee, Cynthia Cheney and husband Roger, Ann Woodruff, Prissy Lee and husband Alex Makai, Carol Lee and Ed Masten; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Lee; sister, Joan; brother, Robert; and step-son, Larry Barnett.
The Family would like to extend a special thanks to his very special grandson, Robert Durrant for his special loving care; and to Dr. Terry Whitehouse, Dr. Kishan Chand, Dr. Haresh Kumar and their staffs, along with the staff of Citizens Medical Center and HealthForce for their excellent care.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Colonial Funeral Home. The Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm Saturday at Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Burr Dobbins officiating. Military honors under Auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council.

Honorary pallbearers include Robert Durrant, Barret Brown, Denny Arnold, Ronnie Theus, Raymond Scherlen, Gaylan Duncan, Trey Sheffield, J. D. Gray, and all the city employees who worked with John.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal School or donor's choice.
