John Lynn Lewis, 78, of Kingsport and formerly of Erwin passed away peacefuly on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at his residence and went home to be with the Lord. Mr. Lewis was born on April 25, 1936 in Clear Branch, Tennessee the son of the late Harry M. Lewis and Mary V. Crowder Lewis. He was retired from Holliston Mills after twenty-eight years of service and attended Beulah Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1955-1959. John Lynn Lewis, 78, of Kingsport and formerly of Erwin passed away peacefuly on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at his residence and went home to be with the Lord. Mr. Lewis was born on April 25, 1936 in Clear Branch, Tennessee the son of the late Harry M. Lewis and Mary V. Crowder Lewis. He was retired from Holliston Mills after twenty-eight years of service and attended Beulah Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1955-1959. During his time of service he received the following decorations and citations; National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Faye (Susie) Lewis; two brothers, James Milton Lewis and Kenneth Richard Lewis; brothers-in-law, William Ronald Harris and James Boynton; nephew, Terry Lewis; and niece, Megan Donaldson. Survivors include his wife of forty-four years, Anna Ruth Lewis; one son, Paul Lynn Lewis of the home; one brother, Harry M. Lewis, Jr. (Teresa) of Erwin; sisters, Loretta F. Thompson (Larry) of Jonesborough, Debra L. Tapp (Hubert, Jr.) of Erwin, Linda S. McNeill (Larry) of High Point, NC, Bonnie J. Lewis of Unicoi, Ruth I. Harris of Cleveland, GA, and Phyllis A. Boynton of Cleveland, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mr. John Lynn Lewis will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 7:00pm in the East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Al South officiating. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 11:00am in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with military honors to be rendered by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Beulah Baptist Church, building fund, 491 Beulah Church Road, Kingsport, TN., 37663.
