John Maguire Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2012.

John G. Maguire, Baptized into the Hope of Christ's Resurrection on Thursday, November 22, 2012.
Loving husband of 48 years of Judy L. Maguire (nee: Crecelius).
Loving father of Sherrry (Robert) Higgins and Monte Maguire.
Loving grandfather (grampy) of Joshua and Amanda Higgins.
Dear brother of Evelyn (the late Ralph) Lageman, the late Clifford Blankenship, Donald (Dee) Maguire, Donna (Donald) Ortner and Catherine (Robert) Putz.
Dear brother in law of Mel (Barb) Crecelius and Ruthane (Tom) DeKorsey.
Dear uncle, great uncle, cousin and friend to many.

John retired from the Mehlville Fire District after serving 32 years as an active firefighter, and one year with the auxiliary firefighters. He was a charter member of Local 1889. His original house was # 6, but he retired from house # 4. He received numerous awards including 2 Phoenix Awards. The Phoenix award is given for 5 clinical saves, those in which people are in cardiac arrest and then survive, so John saved 10 people's lives.

John will be taken to his final resting place in the 1944 fire truck he origionally drive, bought and restored by one of his fellow firefighters. In loving memory, the firefighters also purchased a new Class A uniform for John's burial. (The store tailor opened the store on a Saturday holiday just to make the uniform.) John will receive full honors by his fire district. He was well loved and respected by those who served with him.

The funeral service will be conducted in the Chapel of Hoffmeister South County Chapel 1515 Lemay Ferry Road on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. The interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation is on Monday at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
