Born in the West Texas town of O'Donnell on January 11, 1927, John Bedder Malouf, founder and owner of Malouf's in Lubbock and Southlake, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015. In 1945, Malouf was drafted into the Army. He graduated from Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in 1949 with his BBA in Business Management. In August of 1949, at age 22, Malouf opened his own men's store, leasing a space on Avenue K in Lubbock. He took on the role of store planner, merchandiser and buyer. Born in the West Texas town of O'Donnell on January 11, 1927, John Bedder Malouf, founder and owner of Malouf's in Lubbock and Southlake, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015.

In 1945, Malouf was drafted into the Army. He graduated from Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in 1949 with his BBA in Business Management. In August of 1949, at age 22, Malouf opened his own men's store, leasing a space on Avenue K in Lubbock. He took on the role of store planner, merchandiser and buyer. He even designed all the store fixtures. Malouf's now has two store locations: Kingsgate Center in Lubbock and Southlake Town Square in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

On July 30, 1950, Malouf married Eleanor E. Emmett, from Dallas, who preceded him in death on November 15, 1986. They had eight children together.

As an innovator in the industry, Malouf was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award during MR Magazine's annual Uptown Downtown Dinner in 2013.

Not only was Malouf an icon in the apparel industry, he was an avid philanthropist. In 2005, Malouf received the Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the Lubbock Association of Fundraising Professionals. Malouf was a patron of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, generously supported Covenant Health System, established several business scholarships for the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University, and attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Surrounded by family and friends, Malouf passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the age of 88. A Mass service will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic University Parish, 2316 University, at 11am.

Malouf is survived by a brother, Buddy Malouf, and his wife Jo, of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his other siblings, Matilda, Mitchell III and Tommy.

He is also survived by children Michael J. Malouf, Matt E. Malouf, Scott A. Malouf and his wife Karen, Sam J. Malouf and his wife Gloria, Jennie Malouf Gilchrist and her husband Tom, Linda Malouf Walter and her husband Paul, Leslie A. Malouf, and Beverly Malouf Debolski and her husband Tom.

Malouf is also survived by his grandchildren Marlowe Malouf, Anna Malouf, Andrew Malouf, John Gilchrist, Ellie Gilchrist, Jack Walter, Graham Walter, Eleanora Malouf, Isabella Malouf and Gabriella Malouf.
