Vassalboro - John "Jack" Joseph Mayhew, 72, passed away early Friday morning, following a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer surrounded by loved ones. Jack was born in Manchester, New Hampshire and was predeceased by his adoptive parents John P. and Diana E. Mayhew, of Manchester and birth mother, Rosilda Laflamme, of Concord, New Hampshire. Vassalboro - John "Jack" Joseph Mayhew, 72, passed away early Friday morning, following a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer surrounded by loved ones. Jack was born in Manchester, New Hampshire and was predeceased by his adoptive parents John P. and Diana E. Mayhew, of Manchester and birth mother, Rosilda Laflamme, of Concord, New Hampshire.

After leaving Bishop Bradley High School in Manchester, Jack joined the US Navy and became an Aircraft Electrician's Mate 2nd.Cl. Following his Honorable discharge in 1962, Jack worked for Sprague Electric Co. in Concord, New Hampshire in pre-production pilot lab. Jack then worked as a civil service employee at Grenier Airfield in Manchester as an Air Reserve Technician at the rank of Staff Sgt. doing similar work as when he was in the Navy. Jack then transferred to Hanscomb AFB in Bedford MA.

In September 1965, Jack then became a Technical Representative for the Xerox Corporation working out of the Manchester/Bedford NH area and also in Boston as a Product Technical Specialist covering NH, Vermont, and Maine. In 1975 Jack moved to Maine as a Field Manager of Customer Services covering territory from South Portland to Aroostook County and had the responsibility to manage 21 service technicians and a large customer base. It was here he met many lifelong friends.

On April 14, 1973, Jack married Pauline C (Hogencamp) Lafreniere.

Jack is survived by his loving and faithful wife Pauline.

He is also survived by his daughter Michelle D. Kosten, and her husband Bob, as well as son Michael J Mayhe; his four stepchildren: Cheryl Languet, Maureen Hocking and husband Tad, Tom Lafreniere, David Lafreniere; eight grandchildren: Rachel Languet, Amanda Languet, Ben Lafreniere, Karyssa Kosten, Hannah Hocking, Nathan Lafreniere, Cameron Mayhew ,Brandon Mayhew, and two great-grandchildren: Alexandria Splan and Jude Rogers.

Jack also leaves behind his sister Annette (Levesque) and brother-in-law Den Harney, and his brother David and spouse Pat Levesque from Concord, NH.

Jack also has many relatives in The Manchester, NH area from his adopted parents.

Jack has numerous friends and acquaintances in many parts of the world as he enjoyed traveling and meeting people. Friends extend from New Zealand to Russia.

Jack enjoyed the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, boating and spending time with his former Xerox colleagues up to camp in Lewis Pond, VT. Jack enjoyed doing the chores around home, gardening, lawn care, firewood gathering, and spending time with family.

Jack was a member of Kotlas-Waterville Sister City Connection (Sister city relationship between Waterville and Kotlas Russia) where he served in the executive committee and was also past Co-Chair.

Funeral arrangements are made by Veilleux Funeral Home include burial at the Augusta Maine Veteran's Cemetery.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 Thursday December 5, 2013 at Notre Dame Church Silver Street Waterville, followed by a celebration of Jack's life at the Winslow VFW at 12:00 on Thursday.

Many thanks to all of the amazing medical staff at both Maine General in Augusta and the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta that took such good care of Jack.

In lieu of flowers, donations and contributions can be made in his memory to The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care or to the Mid-Maine Homeless Shelter in Waterville.
