John "Joe" Mayo, born 1947, of Congers, NY died suddenly February 25, 2014.Joe was predeceased by his parents Michael Sr. and Evelyn Mayo. He was educated in Rockland County and graduated Michigan State University. Joe served his country proudly with the U.S. Navy and received an Honorable Discharge. He also served 20 years with the Naval Reserves. Joe worked in the family business Bell Metal Fabrications Inc. in Pearl River until the shop closed. He then worked briefly for Coach USA Inc. before finding his niche with Chromalloy Inc. in Orangeburg, NY. He was a 48 year life member of Alert Hook & Ladder Fire Company in...
John "Joe" Mayo, born 1947, of Congers, NY died suddenly February 25, 2014.Joe was predeceased by his parents Michael Sr. and Evelyn Mayo. He was educated in Rockland County and graduated Michigan State University. Joe served his country proudly with the U.S. Navy and received an Honorable Discharge. He also served 20 years with the Naval Reserves. Joe worked in the family business Bell Metal Fabrications Inc. in Pearl River until the shop closed. He then worked briefly for Coach USA Inc. before finding his niche with Chromalloy Inc. in Orangeburg, NY. He was a 48 year life member of Alert Hook & Ladder Fire Company in Congers and served as a department Auditor for 10 years. Joe was a member of the NJ/NY Fireman's Association and also belonged to the RCVFA. Joe loved working in his garden, traveling and playing with Charlie and Jackthecat. He was also ready to "lend a hand" for a friend. He is survived by his wife Shelagh, his children Sara, Casey and Shane, his former wife Deborah, his brother Michael and family of VA, his dear cousin Ginger and family of WVA and many loving cousins and friends. Joe will be greatly missed. If you wish to make a donation please consider the Alert Hook & Ladder Fire Department in Congers. Viewing will be Sunday, March 2nd 2-4 and 7-9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home 113 Lake Road East Congers, NY. Firematic Services will be offered Sunday 8pm at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be offered Monday 10:30am at the Funeral Home. Burial to follow with Military Honors at Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
