John F. O'Neal Sr., 90, passed peacefully on January 24, 2012, in Tempe, Arizona. He was born on February 4, 1921, to loving parents Lawrence and Katherine (Brown) O'Neal in Winslow, Arizona. He married the love of his life on May 27, 1946, in Phoenix, Arizona, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. He honorably served his country during World War II. He came back to Arizona and enjoyed his career of teaching until 1977. He was involved in the following activities; Eagle Scout and Scouting at all levels, Creighton United Methodist Church Trustees, Mission work, computer, private pilot license, short wave radio, traveling, wood working, construction, and electronics. He is preceded by his parents and sister Katherine (Kitty) Tinney. He is survived by his wife Virginia (Hedgpeth) O'Neal; sons Rev. John F. O'Neal Jr., Rev. James A. O'Neal, Lawrence L. O'Neal; daughter Katherine I. O'Neal; sister Ioan (O'Neal) Shinn; 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Scottsdale Healthcare Foundation-Heart, Creighton United Methodist Church, or Hospice of the Valley. Visitation services are scheduled at 4pm-7pm on Friday, January 27, 2012, at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85257. Memorial services are scheduled at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Creighton United Methodist Church, 4900 E. Thomas Rd, Phoenix, Arizona, 85018. Private Interment will be at a later date.
