PEKIN – John L. Pennington, 78, of Pekin, passed away at 4:42 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at BroMenn Health Care Center in Normal, Illinois. He was born October 27, 1931 in Iowa to Wesley and Alice Marie (Tisdale) Pennington. He married Maxine A. Roberts October 14, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death November 10, 2005 in Pekin. He is survived by two daughters: Donna (and Danny) Lovell of Forest City, Illinois, and Kay (and Pat) Lancaster of Spring Bay, Illinois; one son: John E. (and Debra) Pennington of South Pekin, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Kimberly (and David) Spartis of Hot Springs, California, Dee...
PEKIN – John L. Pennington, 78, of Pekin, passed away at 4:42 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at BroMenn Health Care Center in Normal, Illinois. He was born October 27, 1931 in Iowa to Wesley and Alice Marie (Tisdale) Pennington. He married Maxine A. Roberts October 14, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois. She preceded him in death November 10, 2005 in Pekin.

He is survived by two daughters: Donna (and Danny) Lovell of Forest City, Illinois, and Kay (and Pat) Lancaster of Spring Bay, Illinois; one son: John E. (and Debra) Pennington of South Pekin, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Kimberly (and David) Spartis of Hot Springs, California, Dee Hilliard of Pekin, Erik Wisher of Pekin, John J. Pennington of Manito, Francis Lovell of Pekin, John D. Pennington and Joshua Lee Pennington , both of South Pekin; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons: Michael L. Pennington and Ricky Lee Pennington, two brothers and one sister.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran; he worked as a Cement Mason Finisher for Local 18 in Peoria for over 30 years, retiring in 1997; and owned and operated Pennington Mini Storage and Feed Store in South Pekin; he was a life member at Amvets Post 235, where he was a past Post Commander and Chief; and was a member of the Central Illinois Trikers, Brothers of the 3rd Wheel.

John was a caring and loving father, grandfather, and loved and cared for all animals.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2009 at Woolsey Funeral Home in Pekin. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
