John Edward Pierson, 93, died March 29, 2014 at Decatur Morgan General Hospital in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, of 69 years. He was a resident of The Terrace in Priceville.He is survived by his son, John Pierson and wife, Judy, of Athens; daughters, Joanne Pierson of Jacksonville, FL and Jayne Smith of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He dedicated countless hours to the Masons, Shriners, Court Jesters, and served as Director of the El Zaribah Shrine in Phoenix, AZ. Over a 60-year working career he drove buses and eighteen-wheeler trucks in which he totaled five million miles over the road.A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1700 Carridale Street SW, Decatur, AL with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Scottish Rite Hospital, 1001 Johnson Ferry Road N.E., Atlanta, GA, 30342- 1608.

Special condolences to the family of John Pierson. What a wonderful person John was..I go way back to Navarre, Minnesota where I first knew John and his entire family, including Charlie and brother Dick. I also remember him in the Navy during WWII. I was in the El Zaribah Directors Staff with John. May God bless his soul. He will be missed by many.
