My condolences to all of John's family and friends. It's clear that he made a lasting impact on many people, its one of the best legacies any of us can hope for. I had the privilege of working with John on various projects over the past 10 years. I was looking forward to working with him again and was shocked to learn of his passing. I will truly miss his energy and wit, and our nation will miss his knowledge and expertise.

We were deeply saddened by the news of John's untimely passing. He was a GREAT friend and "Marine Brother" for years. John was always ready to lend a hand or advice on any subject or task. The man seemed to know a little bit about anything! "Heart of Gold" was mentioned several times, but with John, that is an understatement. We will miss you John! Semper Fi Brother!, see you later...

I knew John during his childhood and early teen years. His mom was my best friend in East Alton. It is so hard to lose a loved one at any age. I know because I just lost both my husband and youngest son to cancer. Please know, Sue, that I will keep you and your family in my prayers and thoughts. God will be there for you through out this storm and give you his peace. My love to you all, Bonnie Gerl Casey

I thank the Lord for my friend John and I will miss him deeply. I mourn for my loss of his friendship and for his family who suffers from his absents but my heart is also glad that I will see his face and hear his laugh once again, when the Lord comes for all his children and wipes every tear from our eyes. Thank you Lord for John and the blessings of knowing him and his always helping hand to me and those in need, I never saw him turn away, I always saw him bear up under the load with a smile on his face. John you are deeply missed.

I've worked with John over the last 12 years and regret I'd only gotten to know him personally within the last 3 to 5 of them. John had a huge and generous heart, always there to lend a helping hand to anyone be they family, friends, Sailors, Marines, co-workers or neighbors, He was like a big brother I never had, always there to offer advice or assistance. I will miss him dearly as will the many who had the privilege to know such a kind and wonderful man.

Mr. Sherman, so sorry to hear of your family's loss. I can say that I truly understand because I lost my mother Tuesday morning, Dec. 11. Parents are so special and I will miss being with her everyday. As comfort to you I would like to share what a friend told me this week. Your mother will get to spend Christmas with the true meaning this year, Christ. That seemed so special to me. My prayers are with your family.

It's no exaggeration to say that John Sherman was the heartbeat of our community, and exemplified everything it meant to be a neighbor and friend. If you ever needed help with anything, all you had to do was ask and Mr. John would drop whatever he was doing in order to lend a hand. And if he happened to see you were having trouble with something, he would always stop by and offer his assistance. I can't think of anyone in our community that Mr.John hasn't helped at some point and he will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

On behalf of my Dad and myself, our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. John's family during this most difficult time.
