John Wiley Sifford, 84, beloved and devoted husband of Doris Purser Sifford, passed away August 7, 2014. He was born to Ray C. and Dola B. Sifford in Lowesville, NC. He was the youngest of seven, all of whom predeceased him: Brettie S. Black and husband Clyde, Jessie S. Gouger, husband John and their son John S. Gouger, Lois S. Henkle and husband Harold, Patsy L. Sifford, R.C.Sifford and wife Corinna, and Elizabeth S. Rotan and husband Jay. In addition, preceding him in death were Marzelle P. Cooper and husband Pat, W. John Wiley Sifford, 84, beloved and devoted husband of Doris Purser Sifford, passed away August 7, 2014. He was born to Ray C. and Dola B. Sifford in Lowesville, NC. He was the youngest of seven, all of whom predeceased him: Brettie S. Black and husband Clyde, Jessie S. Gouger, husband John and their son John S. Gouger, Lois S. Henkle and husband Harold, Patsy L. Sifford, R.C.Sifford and wife Corinna, and Elizabeth S. Rotan and husband Jay. In addition, preceding him in death were Marzelle P. Cooper and husband Pat, W. Dennis Purser, wife Jessica and their son Gary V. Purser, and Jean P. McMackin and husband Morris "Mack".

He had a deep love for family and friends and a kind heart for all. He was a loving father to Ansle S. Hudson and husband Al and Leia S. Dean and husband Benny. He was a proud "Papa" to Hailey, Sydney and Ally Hudson and had fun with their popcorn, cookies and milk parties.

Johnny graduated from Rock Springs High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict.

He worked for one year with the US Patent Office in Washington DC. He enjoyed this very much but wished to return closer to home and family. He was then employed by IBM Corporation in Charlotte for his entire working career. He enjoyed the many people he met through his work there and made a countless life-long friends with whom he stayed in touch until his death.

Johnny had many hobbies including wood working, the challenge to repair anything broken and never lacked for a project. He especially loved listening to music and playing the guitar and piano.

He is survived by those already mentioned in addition to nieces Pat Hills and husband Larry, Mary Ann Marlow and husband Richard, Judy Schaefer and husband John, Tammy Caskey, husband Mike and their family, brother-in-law Rodney Purser and wife Carol, nephew Lanny Sigmon, nephew Wayne Purser and wife Polly, niece Sydna Verross, nephew Lee Purser and wife Patti, niece Tamara Griffin and husband Bill, niece Mona Huntley, nephews Roddy Purser, wife Allison and family, Zach Purser, wife Jen and family, Josh Purser, wife Amy and family, great-nephew Garrett Mitchener, great-niece Allison Emery and husband Brent, and great niece Meghan Huntley-Talwar and husband Anand Talwar.

Johnny endured many serious illnesses over the course of his life which he handled with grace and resilience. He is remembered as saying " I have appreciated and enjoyed my life". He will remain in the hearts of all of us and will forever be missed.

His service of Hope and Celebration will be held at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park , 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC on Monday August 11. A period of visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park.
