Dr. Sommer was my childhood dentist. Even after 40 plus years, I still remember riding the elevator up to the 4th floor of the old Michigan National Bank building to visit Dr. Sommer. He was always so gentle and kind and I will never forget the treasure chest. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

Dr. Sommer was my first dentist also. He was a wonderful person. I will always remember how kind and patience he was.

Dr. Sommer was my childhood dentist too, and what a wonderful, kind-hearted man he was. Long after I had left Battle Creek, I encountered dentists who often remarked on the quality of the work Dr. Sommer had done years before. Not many people have fond memories of their trips to the dentist, but I sure do. He was the best.

I had Dr. Sommer for my dentist; when I was a child. I can still remember the office in the bank building. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. God Bless.

Dr. Sommer was my first dentist, as a child I too was scared but he made it not so scarey and afterwards got to pick a prize from his treasure chest. I now go to his Daughter, Dr. Rebecca Sommer and am treated exactly as I was when a child (except for the prize in the treasure chest). Thank You Dr. Sommer for being my FIRST dentist

I have many good memories of Dr. John Sommer: he was kind, considerate, thoughtful yet professional to this once young child who was scared of of going to the dentist. He remained my first and only dentist, until daughter Dr. Becky assumed the practice. He made the experience a positive one, ending each dental procedure with a treat from a special treasure chest box (from which a child could select a small prize.) Although six decades have passed, I've never forgotten his compassion and kindness. His work was of the finest, highest quality, a trait passed on to his daughter, Dr. Becky. He was one who made a positive difference in the lives of others. My sympathies to the entire Sommer family for the loss of your dad.
